Matt Damon Tells Daughter He Had No Fuckin’ Idea ‘F-Slur’ Was Offensive

BOSTON — Actor Matt Damon is facing backlash after announcing that he recently found out that the “f-slur” was offensive to the LBTQIA+ community in an interview with U.K.’s Sunday Times. Damon said he came to the realization after his daughter became upset when he used the word at dinner.

“I’m sitting there at the fuckin’ table, right,” Damon said in the interview. “And I says, I says, ‘you gotta be fuckin’ shittin’ me.’ When the fuck did that become a thing?”

Damon’s daughter wrote him a “very long treatise” where she laid out why the word is offensive. After reading the note, Damon said that he “retired the f-slur,” which he says he commonly used as a child, putting an end to a long and storied 50-year career in the actor’s vocabulary.

“And you know, that was hard to do,” Damon said with tears in his eyes. “I loved that fuckin’ word. But you know, it was time to let it go.”
